Dr. Yamanaka spent much of his childhood tinkering with small radios and clocks trying to satisfy his knowledge for how things worked. This curiosity stemmed from imitating his role model - his father who was an engineer and ran a small business. At that point in time, a young Shinya dreamed of one day becoming an engineer just like him.
With a father heavily rooted in engineering and manufacturing, it comes as no surprise that the excitement of developing an individual solution to a problem and creating something on one’s own were experiences instilled in him from a young age.
